About this walk
Ancient oaks in Chantry Wood lead the climb to St Martha-on-the-Hill, a Norman church reachable only on foot. Pilgrims have been making this exact climb for the better part of a thousand years, and the way down to Chilworth follows their old route, through chalk lanes worn deep by all that walking.
